Content:
Site Selection Magazine recently awarded Texas the 2004
Governor's Cup for economic development, citing the Texas Enterprise
Fund and a welcoming regulatory climate. But recent news stories
have highlighted the ebb and flow of Houston's life sciences
industry. Some companies have moved out, even as the region attempts
to recruit or retain others. What is Houston's overall score
in the area of recruitment and retention in the biotech arena?
Hear from a panel of the area's economic and workforce development
leaders as they discuss this question and other key site selection
issues:
- What incentives can cities and the state bring to the table?
- What aspects of the area entice companies to consider Houston?
- What are our critical weaknesses, and how are we addressing
them?
- How are we growing key skills needed for long-term success?
Panelists will:
- Describe the recruitment/retention process, with details
on how it really
works, who gets involved, and how biotech
companies can best navigate it
- Highlight existing or emerging workforce development efforts
and their implications for the region
- Share recent or in-progress case studies
