Meeting Topic:
"Establishing the Supply Chain - A Small Company Perspective"
The development of the supply chain and launch preparations for a new product are presented. The product's sponsor, Encysive, is a small company with limited commercial resources. As a result, establishing the supply chain as a small company has some unique challenges. The areas of vendor selection, technical transfer, contracts and quality agreements, and relationship management will be discussed, from a small company perspective.

Bio:
Steve Pondell is the Director of Manufacturing for Encysive Pharmaceuticals in Houston. His role at Encysive is to establish and manage the supply chain of the company in the production and distribution of their new small molecule drug. In this role, Steve is responsible for commercial vendor selection as well as maintaining the relationships with these suppliers. He has been with Encysive for two years, having spent the prior year at Cambrex Corporation in Charles City, Iowa. Steve spent the first 22 years of his career at Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, Illinois.
During his tenure at Abbott and at Cambrex, Steve has been responsible for various aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing and development. He has managed Abbott's API chemical pilot plant operations and full scale commercial operations. He was the Vice President of Operations and Site Manager for Cambrex' Charles City API Operations. He has also served as the Director of Quality Assurance for Abbott's North Chicago Fermentation Operations. In all of these positions, Steve has been heavily involved in contract manufacturing operations.
Steve earned his Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Michigan and his MBA from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. spondell@encysive.com
